Immaculate Conception

New Roman Missal

Intro

You may have heard the news already. In an age where information travels faster than ever before, many Catholics already know that on the first Sunday of Advent, November 27, 2011, a new translation of the Mass will be introduced in all English-speaking countries across the world. The translation has been no small undertaking, since the idea for the project has been around since the first post-Vatican II translation was released and the current arrangement has been in the works for over 10 years. Indeed, it is miraculous that after the collaborative but labor-intensive effort to create the translation that bishops, experts in translation of classical languages, and theologians from America, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and elsewhere were able to agree on one final product! So it is with joy that we receive the revised prayers (just about 14 for the people) and music for the liturgy, which shapes our identity as Catholic Christians, as an opportunity to immerse ourselves in the theology of the Mass and to encounter afresh the faith we live daily as a community of believers.

Here at Immaculate Conception, the Liturgy Committee, under the guidance of our pastor, Msgr. Ferrarese, has been planning and collecting resources to make the implementation of the changes smooth and easy. The purpose of this page is to provide a source-point for information to feed any hunger for more and answer any questions that members of our family of faith might have. Why the changes? How many prayers are different? What was the process like? What will this mean for my spiritual life? Answers to these and many more questions are linked below, as well as music samples for the new Mass settings, video presentations, and articles that give a more detailed explanation of the revised prayers and the process that developed them. Please enjoy these resources as you and your family get to know the new translation of the Roman Missal. And if you come across anything good while you’re surfing, let us know!
